Week Two

Well we're into week two and it's been a week of a mixed regime! I managed a couple of runs and was happy to complete an 11 mile run through the lanes of Wenvoe on Thursday afternoon which had quite a few hills and a whole lot of mud! It was nice to get those kind of miles in but you have to think that the marathon is double that and a bit more!

Still I suffered no ill effects and its a great feeling to do those kind of miles.

However this weekend, after playing and winning football on Saturday (an excellent cup win), and staying in Saturday night (always a good idea when you're training), I fell off the wagon for a couple of days after my best mate Iain arrived home from London!

Cue two days of drink fuelled antics and not much else! A small bit of exercise and then a relax in the sauna on Monday afternoon; well you've got to look after those muscles, but couple that with 6 pints of Heineken in the Wenvoe Arms on Monday night with the boys and training goes out of the window!

However there was another reason for the lack of running since Saturday. After football on Saturday, and although I couldn't remember doing anything that could of caused it, I managed to get an injury to my ankle.

I was in severe pain but was looked after tremendously by Laura who cooked the tea, cleaned up and even went to the shop to get me Ibuprofen's! So thanks to her for that.

After managing to get to sleep on Saturday I woke up Sunday without any pain whatsoever! I am sure Laura thought I was putting it on so that I could get waited on hand and foot :-)

Very strange... Great news though as it enabled me to go on the Sunday morning exercise with the RNLI where we met up with our flank stations, Western, Burnham and Penarth just off Flat Holm.

It was a superb morning to be out of the boat, if a little cold, and interesting to see all the other type of boats and the people involved in volunteering from all walks of life!

Just when it seemed it couldn't get any better a Police helicopter turned up to do some life jacket drops with our dummy 'Dead Fred' who was placed in the water. A wonderful spectacle to witness.

After resting the ankle yesterday (well if you can call drinking resting!) I managed to get out and do a 3 mile run this evening with my footy manager Jimmy Blackie and felt no ankle problems at all.

Therefore I intend to do two more runs this week on Wednesday and Thursday and then a big one on Sunday.

I also had a call from the Barry & District news today asking for an interview for the local press so I am meeting them tomorrow to get some coverage which is amazing, and I also was promised sponsorship from Nina Estate Agents (http://www.ninaestateagents.co.uk/) to add to my total which I am hugely grateful for.

Things are certainly looking good to get to my total. If you would like to give then please visit my Virgin Money Sponsorship page. Thank you.
