Well it week three now and training has really stepped up! For those of you who has been following me on Twitter (@Ed_RNLI_Ldn2012) I have been posting my runs and I have been trying to develop a regime which incorporates a small loosener early in the week, a medium run before footy training on a Thursday and the my main run of distance on a Sunday.
Sunday was a big test. My first run at 16 miles (still 10 miles short of the overall marathon distance!) but still well over what I have done since completing the Great North Run over a year ago.
With the wind whipping up in my face from the very start and the dark clouds dotted around everywhere threatening rain I found it extremely hard out of Barry especially with the hills, it was like running on a treadmill!!!
As I turned onto Port Road it was a great relief to feel the wind on my back and fairly pushing me up the hill towards Tesco. It was a lovely run from there to Wenvoe/St Andrews though a little bit dodgy going through those lanes with cars, horses and bikes!
Into Dinas Powys and past the rugby players before a hard uphill through
Cross Common Road with the undulating hills, a slight drop and a difficult hill into Sully! Through the Docks and I was starting to feel it in the legs but I managed to overtake a
bicycle on Millenium Way, some feat after 15 miles!
Another runner was coming up behind me from Morrisons but I wasn't been overtaken so late on so pushed on to Broad Street and finished strongly, completing the run in 2 and a quarter hours. See my run here - http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/65269056
More great news is that I have passed the £200 mark on my sponsorship page - http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ed2012 though there is still much to do to break the £2,300 milestone! I am working on some fund raising ideas and will hopefully post these on this blog in the next few weeks. However I am still welcoming the on-line donations and are so grateful for these.
This week keep an eye out in the Barry & District for an article by Christopher Seal in which he writes a piece on me, the RNLI, the marathon and my motivation behind the run.
I was interviewed by him this week so the article should be in Thursday's edition. For an interesting read please buy the paper!
Finally I would like to say a big thank you at Nina Chivers from Nina Estate Agents who has kindly agreed to sponsor me this week. So thanks to her for such a wonderful offer.
Please see her website http://www.ninaestateagents.co.uk/
I must mention that as I write this blog Cardiff City have just won their semi final second leg against Crystal Palace on penalties. Well done to them on such an excellent achievement, their fourth Wembley experience in five years, and I am sure you will all join me in wishing them luck for the Final!
